The Minimum: 48 Hours

Wood siding and decks need at least 48 hours of drying after pressure washing before paint or stain is applied. This assumes warm, dry, sunny weather with low humidity. In Greater Boston's summer humidity or cloudy conditions, 72 hours is more realistic.

How We Verify Dry Time

We use a pin-type moisture meter to check wood moisture content before staining or painting. Wood should be below 15% moisture content for optimal adhesion. We don't guess or go by feel — we measure. This step is what separates a paint job that lasts from one that fails prematurely.

Weather Conditions That Extend Dry Time
