How to Prepare Your Boston Home for Interior Painting

Preparing your home properly before painters arrive makes the whole project go smoother and protects your belongings. Here's exactly what we handle and what we recommend you do before we show up.

What We Handle

We move light furniture — chairs, small tables, lamps — away from walls. Everything gets covered with drop cloths. We remove outlet covers and light switch plates. We protect floors with paper and canvas drop cloths. At the end of every day, we move furniture back and leave the space usable.

What We Ask You to Do

Take down wall art, mirrors, and anything mounted to walls. Remove small decorative items from shelves and windowsills. If there are items with high sentimental or monetary value, we ask you to move those yourself so there's no risk. Heavy furniture that can't be moved gets fully covered — we work around it.

Lead Paint Considerations

Homes built before 1978 in Greater Boston may contain lead paint. If you have young children or are pregnant, the EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) program sets requirements for how contractors must handle lead paint during renovation work. We follow all RRP protocols on older Boston homes.
